Justin Eclavea begins his fifth season on the Aggie coaching staff. He serves as Pitching Coach & Recruiting Coordinator, as well as serving in a number of other capacities.
In 2022 the Aggie pitching staff saw great success in their run to the world series setting the
school record in strikeouts (485), and lowering their ERA nearly half of a run from the season
prior. In 2021 the strikeouts increased from the 2019 season rising from 351, to 382, and walks
decreased from 242, to 236. Since his arrival, Aggie pitchers have amassed 1,830 strikeouts
across 1,740 innings pitched. The pitching staff was in the top 3 nationally in strikeouts in 2022,
and has made numerous appearances within the top 20 nationally. Under Eclavea the Aggies
have currently sent 28 pitchers on to the four-year level. Of the 28, 11 have moved on to
Division I, 11 Division II, 3 Division III and 3 to the NAIA respectively. In addition, he oversaw the
first draftee at Murray State since 1985 when the Houston Astros selected Colby Langford in the
17th round of the 2023 MLB Draft.
Prior to joining the Aggies in the Fall of 2020, Eclavea spent the covid year at Edmond North
High School. During the 2018 spring Eclavea was the pitching coach at Division III Blackburn
College, in Carlinville, IL. Prior to Blackburn Eclavea spent the 2016-2017 academic year, and the
fall of the 2017 school year at NAIA St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, OK before the campus
was unexpectedly shut down in November of 2017.
Eclavea, originally from South San Francisco, CA, earned a Bachelor’s in Business from
Bloomfield College (Bloomfield, NJ) in 2016, and a Master’s in Secondary Education with an
emphasis in Sports Administration from East Central University (Ada, OK) in 2018.
