At the helm of the Murray State College Softball program, Coach Aaron Mullens enters his tenth season with an overall record of 379-77 (.831).
Previously, Mullens also served as the Murray State Athletic Director from 2019-22 before stepping down in the summer of 2022. He is still currently serving as the College’s Health and Wellness Program Department Chair.
In the 2025 season, Mullens led the Lady Aggies to another record-setting season as the team accumulated a 62-3 record and claimed their fifth consecutive Region 2 Southwest Plains Tournament Championship. The Lady Aggies also earned a berth to the NJCAA Division II World Series for the fifth straight year. Murray State College won three games at the World Series, finishing fourth in the country.
The year before, the Lady Aggies accumulated a 60-7 record, en route to a third-place finish at the NJCAA Division II World Series. In 2023, Mullens led the Lady Aggies to 58 consecutive wins, which set the NJCAA Division II record for most consecutive wins to start a season. This followed a successful 2022 season where the team finished as the NJCAA Division II National Runner-Ups with a 47-11 record.
The Durant, Oklahoma, native has now led Murray State College Softball to five consecutive national tournament appearances, as well as being recognized as a nine-time defending Region 2 Division II champion since his arrival at Murray State. During the past five seasons, Murray State is an astounding 129-0 in Region 2 conference play.
In 2024, Mullens and his coaching staff were recognized as the NJCAA Division II South Region Coaching Staff of the Year for a second consecutive year. Furthermore, the Murray State Coaching Staff was recognized as NJCAA Divison II National Coaching Staff of the Year. He has had the opportunity to coach 18 NJCAA All-Americans, 53 NJCAA All-Region 2 Recipients and 52 NJCAA Academic All-Americans.
Prior to Murray State, Mullens compiled a 165-68 (.708) record across six seasons (2011-2016) as the head softball coach at Durant High School. He helped lead the teams to the 5A State playoffs three consecutive years from 2014-2016. His last season, he led the squad to a 5A State Runner-Up finish.
Mullens graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Education, and again in 2010 with a Master of Arts in School Administration. He and his wife, Cassie, have been married for 12 years, and they have an eight-year-old son, Julian. They reside in Durant, Oklahoma.
