ARDMORE, Okla. — The Murray State College golf teams turned in an impressive performance at the Region 2 Tournament, highlighted by a championship from the men's team and a narrow runner-up finish for the Lady Aggies.
Men:
The Murray State men's golf team captured the Region 2 title after posting a two-round total of 562. The Aggies opened the tournament with an outstanding first-round score of 273 before finishing with a 289 in the second round to secure the championship. Southeast Arkansas finished in second place with a score of 598, while Seminole State placed third and North Arkansas finished fourth in the team standings.
Individually, Murray State was led by
Shashank Koirala, who delivered a dominant performance with rounds of 65 and 70 to finish with a two-round total of 135. Koirala's strong play earned him Region 2 Player of the Year honors. Conner Tallentire also had an excellent tournament, shooting rounds of 68 and 71 to finish at 139.
Luca Bordoni posted rounds of 71 and 72 for a total of 143, while
Joss Lopez recorded scores of 69 and 76 to finish at 145.
Keegan Westlake rounded out the Aggies' lineup with rounds of 72 and 76 for a 148. Koirala was joined on the All-Region Team by Tallentire, Lopez, and Bordoni following their strong performances throughout the season and tournament.
The success of the Aggie men's team also earned Coach Coppedge the Region 2 Coach of the Year award.
Women:
On the women's side, the Lady Aggies finished just one stroke shy of a Region 2 Championship, placing second with a two-round total of 610 after shooting 304 in the opening round and 306 in the second round. Redlands Community College edged Murray State for the title with a score of 609, while Seminole State finished third at 645.
Paula Gorostiaga led the Lady Aggies with rounds of 78 and an impressive 70 to finish with a team-best total of 148. Gorostiaga's consistent play earned her Region 2 Player of the Year honors.
Emma Hardison followed with rounds of 74 and 77 for a 151, while
Hana Cunnane carded scores of 75 and 78 to finish at 153.
Amiya Raja posted rounds of 77 and 81 for a total of 158, and
Enora Castillon shot rounds of 84 and 83 to finish at 167. Hardison and Cunnane were both recognized for their great play by being named to the All-Region Team.
The Murray State College men's and women's golf teams travel to compete at the Seminole State Invite on Monday, March 30.
