GAINSVILLE, Texas – The Murray State College men's and women's golf teams delivered strong performances at the NCTC Spring Invitational, highlighted by a team championship from the Lady Aggies and several solid individual finishes across both competitions.
The Murray State women's golf team captured the team title, finishing first with a two-round total of 662 (+86). The Lady Aggies posted rounds of 328 and 334 to secure the victory, finishing ahead of Tyler Junior College, which placed second at 667, and North Central Texas College, which finished third at 677. The team's depth proved to be the difference, as four Murray State golfers placedin the top-10 of the individual standings.
Paula Gorostiaga Alvarez led the way for the Lady Aggies with a third-place finish after posting rounds of 80 and 81 for a 161 (+17) total. Right behind her was
Amiya Raja who tied for fourth at 162 (+18) after shooting an 80 in the second round.
Caressa Woods added a top-10 finish by placing ninth at 169 (+25), while
Emma Hardison followed closely in 10th with a 170 (+26).
Isabella Stevens also played well as she finished with a tie for 16th place at 175 (+31).
On the men's side, the Aggies placed sixth overall in a deep 13-team field with a total score of 603 (+27), carding rounds of 295 and 308. The team competed against a strong field that included tournament champion Weatherford College, which finished at 575 (-1), and runner-up Midland College, which posted a 583 (+7).
Connor Tallentire paced the Aggies with a tie for 12th place at 148 (+4), highlighted by an opening-round score of 71.
Shashank Koirala and
Joss Lopez each turned in consistent performances to tie for 21st at 150 (+6).
Keegan Westlake finished tied for 37th at 155 (+11), and
Aaron Ellis rounded out the Aggies' scoring efforts with a 173 (+29).
"This is one of the most exciting wins we've had since I've been coaching here," Coach Coppedge said. "I'm incredibly proud of how our women competed from start to finish. Their focus, consistency, and toughness throughout both rounds really showed. This is the best team win we've had during my time at Murray State, and it speaks to the hard work these players have put in every single day. They're raising the standard for our program, and it's exciting to see what this group can accomplish moving forward."
The Murray State College men's and women's golf teams will return to the course to host the Bruzzy's Spring Fling at Dornick Hills Golf Course in Ardmore. The event will take place on March 2-3.
