Lady Aggies Excel at Jimmy May Open

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Murray State College women's wrestling team battled through a deep and competitive field Saturday at the Jimmy May Open, hosted by Baker University in Kansas. The Lady Aggies were highlighted by a runner-up finish from Dixie Holliday and a fifth-place showing from Kaylee Davis, while several others added strong consolation runs and valuable team points.

Dixie Holliday had an impressive run to the championship match at 110 pounds, finishing second and scoring 19.5 team points. Holliday opened her day with a 12-2 technical fall over Candace Calvert of William Woods, then pinned Tatum Dolan of Carl Albert State in 1:36. She continued her momentum with a 7-2 decision over teammate Addison Polk in the quarterfinals and advanced via forfeit in the semifinals. In a tightly contested title bout, Holliday ultimately fell by pin to Avy Perez of William Penn, capping a strong tournament performance.

Polk added 4.0 team points in the same weight class. After receiving a first-round bye, she won by no contest in her opener and later earned a 10-0 technical fall in the consolation bracket.

Kaylee Davis turned in another standout effort for the Aggies at 160 pounds, placing fifth with 17.0 team points. Davis recorded three straight pins to open the tournament, defeating opponents from Baker, William Penn, and Missouri Valley. After a semifinal setback, Davis battled through the consolation bracket and secured fifth place with a pin of Baker's Hailee Crosland in 3:41.

Teammate Gabby Akers also contributed at 160 pounds, earning a technical fall victory and a decision win to score 4.0 team points. 

The Lady Aggies saw several wrestlers make deep consolation runs. At 117 pounds, Amaya Rubalcado scored 7.5 team points with three consecutive pins in the consolation bracket after an opening-round loss. Andie Wallace added a fall of her own at the same weight class.

Olivia Sandoval highlighted the 131-pound division with back-to-back first-period pins before adding a technical fall in consolation action to total 9.0 team points.

Additional contributions came from Vivian Hayes (103), Adrianna Chronister and Zolie Kurena (145), Caris Morris (180), and others who each secured key wins to help Murray State's overall effort.

The Lady Aggies return to the mat March 6-7 as they travel to Iowa to compete in Nationals.
