TISHOMINGO, Okla. — The Murray State College men's wrestling team fell to Northern Oklahoma College–Tonkawa, 35-16, on sophomore day.
Before the match, the Murray State College men's wrestling sophomores -
Kaden Gallagher,
Kason Mitchell, Josh Gifford, and TD Thomas - were honored for their dedication and hard work to the men's wrestling program.
The dual opened at 125 pounds, where NOC-Tonkawa's Jimmy Swenson earned a 5-1 decision over
Desmond Mayfield to give the Mavs an early lead. At 133, John Marriott followed with a 17-5 major decision over
Gavin Wehr, and a forfeit at 141 allowed the visitors to build momentum.
Murray State answered at 149 pounds as
Kade Carter turned in a strong outing, earning a 12-2 major decision over Robert Brown to put the Aggies on the scoreboard. NOC-Tonkawa responded at 157 with Jaiden Johnson recording a 17-1 technical fall over
Nathan Brown, followed by a forfeit at 165.
The Aggies energized the home crowd in the upper weights. At 174,
Nate Jean delivered one of the night's highlights, pinning Ian Mitchell in 1:54 to earn six points. At 184,
Tyler Medeiros picked up a win by medical forfeit to continue Murray State's rally.
NOC-Tonkawa closed out the dual with a 17-2 technical fall by Tyzel Zachry over
Brayden Tomlinson at 197 and a forfeit at heavyweight, sealing the 35-16 final.
The Aggies return to the mat on January 28th as they take on NEO A&M. The dual is set to start at 6:00 p.m.
