Murray State College men’s wrestling competed at the UCM Roger Denker Open on Sunday

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Murray State College men's wrestling team competed at the UCM Roger Denker Open on Sunday, gaining valuable mat time against a deep field that featured several NCAA Division I and II programs.
 
At 125 pounds, Desmond Mayfield faced a tough draw, opening with a major decision loss to Central Oklahoma's Aden Sanders before falling in the consolation round to Avila's Aaron Gomez.
 
In the 133-pound bracket, Gavin Wehr opened against host University of Central Missouri's Gavin Moore. Wehr continued into the consolation rounds, where he was eliminated by Carl Albert State's Dakota Fenwick.
 
Kade Carter provided one of the brighter performances for the Aggies at 149 pounds. After receiving a first-round bye, Carter earned a hard-fought 16-11 decision over Drury's Chance Hensley. He later ran into strong competition from Central Missouri's Garrett Lyons and Cody Culp, finishing the day with two team points.
 
At 157 pounds, Nathan Brown opened against Baker University's Dylan Washburn before dropping a consolation bout to Grand View's Devin Weber.
 
Kaden Gallagher picked up a win at 165 pounds, earning an 8-1 decision over Quincy's Jack Miller in the opening round. Gallagher was later edged out in a pair of close matches, including a one-point decision in the consolation bracket, adding a team point for Murray State.
 
Nate Jean turned in a solid showing at 174 pounds. After a bye, Jean recorded an 11-2 major decision over Fort Hays State's Griffin Mitchell. He later faced nationally competitive opponents from Quincy and Grand View, finishing with three team points.
 
At 184 pounds, Tyler Medeiros competed against Fort Hays State and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, gaining experience against quality opposition despite coming up short in both matches.
 
Brayden Tomlinson picked up a 7-5 decision over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M's Hunter McBee at 197 pounds to open his tournament. He later faced Central Oklahoma's Emmanuel Skillings and Avila's Alex Nunez, finishing with one team point.
 
The Aggies return to the mat on January 21st as they host NOC-Tonkawa. The dual is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
