PLYMOUTH, Ind. - The Murray State College men's golf team turned in a strong performance this week, finishing fourth overall at the NJCAA Division II Fall Championship Preview. The Aggies placed two golfers inside the top 10 while showing depth across their lineup against some of the nation's best junior college competition.
Leading the way was
Connor Tallentire, who finished fifth overall with a 4-under-par total for the tournament. Tallentire capped his run with a steady final-round 71 (-1) to secure his second top-five finish of the season.
Close behind was
Shashank Koirala, who posted a 3-under-par total, highlighted by an impressive final-round 69 (-3). Koirala's effort landed him in seventh place individually and marked another standout performance in his sophomore campaign.
Keegan Westlake also contributed as an individual, finishing at 1-under-par for the tournament. His even-par final round placed him 12th overall, giving the Aggies three golfers in the top 15.
Rounding out the team scoring,
Rhys English carded a final-round 77 (+5) to finish +13 for the tournament,
Joss Lopez closed with a 79 (+7) to finish +9, and
Callum Hook posted an 80 (+8) to finish +11.
"I am proud of the young men this week," said Coach Coppedge. "This trip is taxing on the mind and body. 16 hours one way is difficult and being our first 54-hole event, things weren't perfect. The National Preview is for gaining knowledge and experience. Shout out to Connor, Shashank, and Keegan for finishing under par for the event."
No. 3 Murray State will return to action later this fall on Sept. 22 at the Poss High County Shootout as they look to build on their momentum and continue climbing the national ranks.
