ALTO, N.M. – The Murray State College women's golf team competed in a two-day tournament in New Mexico concluding this evening. The Lady Aggies competed against a deep field of nationally recognized programs finishing 7th overall, highlighted by steady play throughout the lineup and several strong second-round performances.
Gabby Hack led the Lady Aggies as she fired rounds of 81 and 78 to place 24th at +17 (159). Paula Gorostiaga Alvarez followed closely, carding a bounce-back 77 in round two to finish T-25 at +19 (161). Hana Cunnane posted consistent rounds of 82-82 for a T-32 finish (+22, 164). Amiya Raja (80-88, 168) and Emma Hardison (88-82, 170) rounded out the Aggies' scoring lineup, while Isabella Stevens finished at +40 (182).
Odessa College won the tournament by 18 shots with a 582 (+14). New Mexico Junior College finished runner-up at 600 (+32), while Weatherford College and Western New Mexico tied for third at 612 (+44).
Coach Coppedge was proud of his team's performance, noting both the challenge of the event and the growth it provided: "This was the girls first time out, and they played in one of the toughest events of the year in JUCO. Competing alongside the reigning NJCAA Division I National Champions, Odessa College, was a great experience for us. We were the top Division II school in the field, and I was really pleased with our second-round highlights — Paula's 77 and Gabby's 78. Shooting 327 and then improving to 319 on this course was a strong showing, and I'm very happy with the effort. We're looking forward to competing against some quality teams at our home event next week."
The Lady Aggies return to the course Monday as they host the Aggie Invitational in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
