SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – In a dominant performance marked by grit, teamwork, and sheer talent, the Murray State College Lady Aggies made history this week by capturing their first-ever NJCAA Division II District Championship in women's golf.
Led by standout freshman
Gabby Hack, who clinched the individual championship by an astounding 11 strokes, the Lady Aggies outpaced their competition by a jaw-dropping 94 strokes as a team, leaving no doubt about who owned the course at the end of the tournament.
Battling through cold and windy conditions that tested every swing, Murray State thrived where others struggled. Hack's steady play and commanding presence on the green set the tone early and never wavered. Her victory wasn't just a win - it was a statement.
Sophomore
Addison Furtick followed right behind in second place, showcasing the depth of the Lady Aggies. Rounding out the team's top-10 dominance were
Mackenzie Dreyer (8th),
Cadence Merchant (9th), and
Madison Caldwell (10th), each contributing critical rounds in the treacherous weather conditions.
"We battled the weather this weekend to win the first ever NJCAA Division II Women's District Championship. Winning by 96 shots was great," said Coach Coppedge. "I am incredibly proud of Gabby picking up her first collegiate win by 11 shots in dominant fashion. Shoutout to Addison for getting 2nd place. This is an incredible moment for our women's golf team, and I am so excited for Murray State College to go down in the history books in NJCAA."
With the district title in hand, Murray State College now advances to the NJCAA Division II National Championship Tournament, where they'll look to carry their momentum onto the national stage and continue rewriting the program's history books. The National Championship takes place May 13-16 in Boone, Iowa.
