HAYS, Kan. – The Murray State College women's wrestling team competed at the Bob Smith Open today, which was hosted by Fort Hays State University.
Jordyn Wilson led the way at 207 pounds, finishing fourth and scoring 15.5 team points. Wilson won her opening match against Faith Macharia of Schreiner University, fell in the quarterfinals to Grace Johns of Fort Hays State, and battled through the consolation bracket with three consecutive pins before ultimately finishing fourth.
Addison Polk also turned in a strong performance at 110 pounds, finishing fifth and contributing 11.5 team points. Polk opened the day with a pin over Morgan Pinzon of Schreiner University, then fought through the consolation bracket with a decision win over
Dixie Holliday, a tech fall against Dalilah Aguayo of Trinidad State, and closed with a 6-6 decision over Mana Chanthasone of Chadron State to secure her fifth-place finish.
Other standout performances included
Zolie Kurena (160 pounds), who won three matches—including two pins—before falling in her final bout, and
Serenity Vaughn (160 pounds) and
Caris Morris (160 pounds), each posting multiple wins in the consolation rounds to score points for the team.
Adrianna Chronister (145 pounds) also fought hard in the consolation rounds, earning three wins and 3 team points.
Sofia Hernández (138 pounds) added a win in consolation action and contributed 1 team point.
While several wrestlers, including
Vivian Hayes (103 pounds),
Dixie Holliday (110 pounds),
Andie Wallace (117 pounds),
Gabby Akers (145 pounds),
Kaylee Davis (180 pounds), and
Jordan Bread (180 pounds) also competed for the Aggies.
The Lady Aggies return to the mat Dec. 13 at the Tulsa 918 Open. The opening matches are scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
