Murray State College men’s wrestling competed at Oklahoma Wesleyan today

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - The Murray State College men's wrestling team competed at the 918 Open on Saturday in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, facing a deep and competitive field featuring junior colleges, four-year programs, and unattached wrestlers from across the region.
 
Desmond Mayfield led the way for the Aggies at 125 pounds with a strong run through the consolation bracket. After dropping his opening bout, Mayfield responded with three consecutive victories, including back-to-back falls over Kyan Patton and Wyatt Vela, followed by a medical forfeit win. He concluded his tournament in the fifth consolation round and finished the day with eight team points.
 
At 133 pounds, Gavin Wehr earned a consolation-round win by injury default and collected 2.5 team points, while Nathan Brown picked up an opening-round victory at 149 pounds with a 19-12 decision before dropping a pair of contested matches. Kade Carter also represented the Aggies at 149, opening the tournament with a win and later earning a sudden-victory decision in the consolation bracket to add 1.5 points.
 
Kaden Gallagher turned in one of Murray State's top performances at 165 pounds, posting a decision victory followed by a second-round fall to advance into the quarterfinals. Gallagher later battled through the consolation rounds and finished with four team points. Nate Jean added another solid showing at 174 pounds, rebounding from an early loss with two straight consolation wins, including a 31-second fall, and totaled 5.5 team points on the day.
 
Murray State also competed at 184, 197, and heavyweight, with Brayden Tomlinson, Tyler Medeiros, Garrett Henry, and Warren Smith gaining valuable experience against strong competition as the Aggies continue to prepare for the remainder of the season.
 
The Aggies return to the mat on January 9th as they travel to Miami, Oklahoma to compete in the National Duals.
