POTEAU, Okla. - Murray State College women's wrestling turned in a strong showing at the Viking Open, earning several podium finishes across multiple weight classes in a competitive field that featured wrestlers from Oklahoma State, Carl Albert State College, Lyon College, Tarleton State, and Oklahoma City University.
At 117 pounds,
Addison Polk earned sixth place after opening the day with an impressive tech fall over Bayleigh Cooper of Oklahoma State. Fellow Aggie
Dixie Holliday shined in the same bracket, securing pins over Cooper and Savannah Worley of Carl Albert State before topping her teammate Polk. Holliday finished in fifth place.
In the 124-pound division,
Amaya Rubalcado put together a solid performance, earning fifth place after recording a tech fall (12-2) over Carl Albert's Kaylee Campbell and a pin over teammate
Andie Wallace. Wallace notched a pin over Jaxi Ervin of Carl Albert to start her day and finished sixth overall.
At 131 pounds,
Olivia Sandoval had one of the Aggies' top finishes, earning runner-up honors. Sandoval picked up a pair of dominant wins, pinning Mallory Sellars of Carl Albert and earning a tech fall over Kambrie Piovesan, also of Carl Albert, before falling in the finals.
In the 138-pound bracket,
Sofia Hernández battled through a challenging draw, bouncing back from early losses to defeat Kayleigh Braden, 8-2, and pin Kristen Barnes of Carl Albert. Hernández finished fourth in the weight class.
Murray State was also strong at 145 pounds.
Adrianna Chronister placed second after pinning Oklahoma State's Hallie Horine and Carl Albert's Rilee Phillips, before suffering her only loss of the day in the final. Teammate
Gabby Akers earned fourth place with pins over Carl Albert's Samantha Graciano and Horine of Oklahoma State.
At 160 pounds,
Serenity Vaughn led the way with a third-place finish after a dominant performance that included a 10-0 tech fall over Ryelle Clark, a pair of pins over Oklahoma State's Izzy Pack, and another pin over Cameron Massie of Oklahoma State.
Zolie Kurena also competed at 160, pinning Clark.
In the upper weights,
Caris Morris and
Jordan Bread both represented the Aggies at 180 pounds, finishing fifth and sixth respectively. Morris pinned Emily Foster of Carl Albert and Bread of Murray State before falling in her final two bouts. Bread earned her lone win via pin over Carl Albert's Alissa Deyapp.
Closing out the day at 207 pounds,
Jordyn Wilson delivered another strong showing for the Aggies, placing second. Wilson pinned Carl Albert's Holidae Banfield and earned a 10-0 tech fall over Allyvia Edwards to reach the finals.
The Murray State women's wrestling team returns to the mat on Wednesday, Nov. 12 as they travel to Lincoln, Nebraska.
