Aggies Tripped up by Cardinals

MSC Men's Wrestling dropped a dual to Labette Community College, 35-12

PARSONS, Kan. – The Murray State College men's wrestling team battled hard on Wednesday night but came up short against a strong Labette Community College squad, falling 35–12 in the dual. Despite several tightly contested bouts and a late surge, the Aggies couldn't overcome Labette's early momentum.

Labette opened the night with a major decision at 125 pounds, where Braxton Moody defeated Desmond Mayfield, 17–9, to give the Cardinals a 4-0 lead. Labette earned Murray State quickly responded at 141 pounds as Hudson Beckley delivered a gritty 2–1 decision over David Ritchey, putting the Aggies on the board.

Labette regained control at 133 pounds with another major decision, followed by a fast fall from Kyler Tabor over Kade Carter at 149, extending the Cardinals' advantage. Murray State continued to fight, and at 157 pounds Nathan Brown edged Roger Mendoza in a close 5–4 decision, trimming the deficit.

However, Labette strung together a series of decisive wins in the middle weights. Jais Rose earned a fall at 165, Blake Hurt followed with another pin at 174, and the Cardinals picked up a forfeit victory at 184 to widen the gap.

Murray State found its highlight of the night at 197 pounds when Brayden Tomlinson secured a pin over Chance Meggs at 4:33, giving the Aggies six team points and a spark late in the dual.

In the heavyweight matchup, Labette closed out the night with a 4–0 decision from Gage Wingerter over Garrett Henry.

The Aggies return to the mat on Friday for their first home contest of the season on Nov. 21. The 21st will also mark the first home dual at Murray State College. The men's competition is set for 6 p.m. against McMurry University.
