Germany freshman
Emilia Zanetti pumped through a goal in each half to spur the Murray State Lady Aggies to a 3-0 soccer whitewashing of Eastern Oklahoma State College at home Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Aggies improved to 3-1-2 overall with the win and 2-1-2 in conference play heading into a Wednesday road trip at perennial power and fifth-ranked Seminole State.
Zanetti put Murray State on the board with 24:16 left in the opening half off a
Mckayla Rios assist, firing a shot off the left post that ricocheted across the goal line.
That proved to be the only score of the first half and the Lady Aggies carried that 1-0 edge deep into the second before
Bridie Thompson's free kick from the left wing sailed into the net in the contest's 73
rd minute.
Murray State's final tally with 9:18 remaining came off another free kick from Zanetti from the right wing.
Goalkeeper
Takielia Griffiths came up with a couple of big stops in the second half to preserve the shutout, finishing the contest with five saves.
"I thought the girls put up a good performance in controlling the ball and had some really good individual efforts that were very important for us," said head coach Alex Morais. "Emilia contributed today with two big goals, and I think the back line did a really good job in protecting us defensively. Takielia kept a clean sheet and hopefully can continue to progress forward.
