MENA, Ark. – Stifling defense was the story in women's soccer action Wednesday as Murray State battled to a 1-1 deadlock with University of Arkansas Rich Mountain.

The Lady Aggies picked up their second tie of the conference season along with a win and a loss and currently stand at 2-1-2 overall. Coach Alex Morais' club will be back home Sunday to face rival Eastern Oklahoma State College at 1 p.m.

Murray State dominated control in the early minutes and eventually broke the scoreless deadlock when Caitlin Jones blasted a shot past the Lady Bucks' keeper off an assist by Mckayla Rios with 22:07 gone in the opening stanza.

Rich Mountain, which was undefeated outside of a loss to powerhouse Seminole State, managed to knot the score off rebound after a Takielia Griffiths save just 16 minutes later to send things to intermission tied.

That's how it remained throughout the second half with both teams coming up short on potential go-ahead opportunities.

Griffiths ended the game with six saves while the Murray State offense ended with 14 shots on goal.

"The girls performed well but just couldn't put another goal away to take the lead in the second half," Morais commented. "We were pleased with the effort and now we need to focus on Sunday back at home."
