ENID, Okla. – A late comeback bid fell short for the Murray State Lady Aggies as they dropped a 3-2 soccer decision to Northern Oklahoma College-Enid in the opening round of the NJCAA South District Championships on Thursday.

The Lady Aggies wrapped up the season with a 9-6-3 overall record in the first year under head coach Alex Morais.

Following an early stalemate, NOC-Enid broke through with the game's opening score on a controversial free kick with 18 minutes remaining in the half. The Lady Jets capitalized on a Murray State defensive miscue with another goal in the game's 32nd minute, punching through a loose ball in the goal box for a 2-0 edge at the half.

Murray State finally grabbed a little momentum on an Emilia Zanetti free kick blast into the Enid net with 33:23 left in the contest. It was short lived however as the Lady Jets got the score back less than 90 seconds later, knocking in another loose ball in the goal box off a deflected shot.

The Lady Aggies turned up the offensive aggression down the stretch and finally narrowed the gap on Zanetti's penalty kick boot into the corner of the net with 24.7 seconds to play.

Murray State had one final push into the NOC-Enid end in the closing seconds but could not get a tying shot on goal.

"It was not the end we wanted, but we are proud of this group especially considering our small numbers coming into the season," Morais said. "They battled until the end and deserved a better result today. Now, we are back on the recruiting trail for 2025 in order to represent our school in the best way next season."
