Chalk up another shutout for goalkeeper
Jimena Guevara as the Madill sophomore recorded her eighth perfect slate of the season in a 4-0 blanking of visiting Northern Oklahoma College-Enid on Sunday afternoon.
The sophomore standout had a little more work than normal in goal, saving seven of the Lady Jets 14 shots on goal while helping the Murray State women improve to 9-1-1 on the season and maintain sole possession of second place in conference play. Entering Sunday's action, the Lady Jets were only a half game back in third.
It didn't take the Lady Aggies long to notch the only goal they would actually need as
Uxia Varela broke free and maneuvered a shot just past the NOC-Enid keeper into the net only two minutes and 13 seconds into the contest.
Aimee Steele added the second Murray State goal with nine minutes remaining before halftime, looping a shot over the keeper's head and into the net.
Coach John Connor's squad added to the advantage with 31:24 left in the game as
Montserrat Torres booted a centering pass from the right side that
Celine Loraine sliced into the net with her left foot.
The final goal came on a right wing blast from
Camden Fawver at the 26:45 mark of the second half.
"They were definitely a good team," Connor said of the Lady Jets. "I thought we performed well, especially in the second half. We had a few players down not feeling well, but had others step up with strong efforts today. It was a good day at the office.
"We took advantage of our chances in the first half and then really controlled possession in the second half. Jimena played well in goal again and our backline had another nice game. It was good to get another shutout for the team."
The Lady Aggies travel to the University of Arkansas-Rich Mountain for their next action on Wednesday for a 1 p.m. start.
