Lady Aggies add to best season start since 2019

The Murray State Lady Aggies continued to be as hot as the weather on Sunday morning, posting a 6-2 conference-opening win over visiting University of Arkansas Rich Mountain to remain unbeaten on the season.

A 4-0 record on the season in Coach John Connor's first year at the helm is the squad's best start since they opened with a 7-0 record in 2019.

While the defense failed to post a shutout for the first time in four contests, the Lady Aggie offense was up to the task with a consistent barrage of attacks against the Lady Bucks. Spain native Uxia Varela, a freshman, continued to help lead the aggressive Murray State style with a pair of goals while sophomore Kaylee Foster added another strong performance by punching in one goal to go along with an assist.

Newcastle, England sophomore Aimee Steele also pitched in a goal and assist to the winning effort. Cristina Escudero and Celine Loraine notched one goal each as Lily Humes and Anika Huder tallied assists.

The Lady Aggies built a 4-1 cushion through the opening half before cruising the rest of the way while controlling possession frequently. Jimena Guevara made a pair of saves in rare Rich Mountain scoring opportunities.

"It's been a really good start for the girls (4-0) and a good start for me as coach, so hopefully we can keep it coming," Connor commented. "Our fitness is getting better slowly but surely, and we've been able to keep the same intensity I like. They are working hard right now and that is showing with the results.

"We know there are a lot of challenges ahead and we can only do what we can do. We have a lot of big games coming up and hopefully we can cement our team as one of the conference contenders. That starts against a really good Rose team on Wednesday."
