Murray State Sports Information
Although they got off to a bit of a slow offensive start, Murray State's defense continued its dominant ways on Sunday as the Lady Aggies posted their ninth shutout of the season in a 3-0 blanking of visiting Rose State College.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Jimena Guevara posted four saves as the Lady Aggies turned away all eight shots by the visiting Lady Raiders. Rose State was limited to a single shot on goal in the final half as Murray State controlled the offensive possession extensively.
"We talked about it at halftime and turned in one of the most dominant second half performances we have had all season," said head coach John Connor. "I thought we were the better team in the first half but they had some chances. We just dominated though after the break. It was a very good win. I think this is the first time in history that we have beaten Rose State twice in women's soccer, so that's a great achievement for the girls."
It took nearly 20 minutes for Murray State to get on the board in the first half when
Kaylee Foster looped a shot over the head of the Lady Raider keeper off the crossbar, deflecting down just past the goal line.
Uxia Varela fed Foster with a nifty centering pass for the assist.
That's how it remained through intermission as Rose State held a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. That all changed following the half as the Lady Aggies peppered the goal relentlessly with 11 shots to just the one for the visitors.
The Lady Aggies added to the lead less than 90 seconds into the final half as
Montserrat Torres drilled a shot into the back of the net off an assist by
Aimee Steele. Their final tally came at the 24:21 mark as Varela blasted through the goal from a strong
Cristina Escudero corner kick.
While improving to 11-1-1 on the season, it was the start of the busiest week of the season as the Lady Aggies travel to Connors State on Tuesday and then league-leading Seminole State on Friday, looking to avenge their lone defeat. They then return home on Sunday against Redlands Community College.

"In general, it's been an amazing season so far," Connor said. "Our goal is to be the winningest team in school history. We're one game closer now."
